Channeling the borough’s blue-collar spirit, the Brooklyn squad’s style of play has long been respected for it’s hardnosed toughness. Team Brooklyn, Coached by Sid Jones–a man whose name is synonymous with championship basketball in New York City–and local streetball legend Mike Campbell, the team squared off in the first round of the Battle of the Boroughs against an equally gritty Bronx squad. “We taking no prisoners,” Sid said, “That’s what Brooklyn is about!” Still, despite a monster game from Kamari Murphy (who stuffed the stat-sheet with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks), Brooklyn was ousted in a nail-biter that came down to a desperation three-pointer. They’ll be back.

When asked about his home court, Omar Calhoun says he’s at home everywhere. While he’s a shooter that can handle and find his open teammates, the characteristics that best define Omar is that he plays defense and does whatever it takes to win. Taking a lot out of Brandon Roy’s game, it’s his father’s work ethic that pushes him to be the best at all times.
